YesYesY by Stephen Nelson
YesYesY by Stephen Nelson
Nelson’s poems use neologism, phonetic echo, and parallel structure to draw the eye and ear to the pressing question of the text before the brain can get there on its own. The playful duplicity of his arrangements spawns readings that swiftly multiply, leading us to the triune and beyond. Indeed, Nelson’s poems represent the creation of a new logos that redefines our relationship to divine experience in the twenty-first century, something he has referred to as “phenomenomenclature.” If “God” is also “Word,” the poems in this collection are a gesture toward a necessary and joyful engagement in both.
